The CWSF 2011 Finalist Survey is live and email invitations have been sent to every Canadian finalist. The data gathered through this survey are extremely helpful in guiding the direction of future CWSFs. Many of the changes made over the past few years are the direct result of feedback gathered through these surveys, started after CWSF 2009.
That year the CWSF finalists amazed me with a 50% response rate (234 out of 468). Last year's respondents didn't do quite as well at 46% (223/485), but that survey ran much sooner after the CWSF and closed in the middle of June - exam time for many high school students. Not the greatest plan.
However, if the first 30 minutes are any indication, 2011 could see our highest response rate yet. Thirty minutes after I sent the email invitations there were already 5 completed surveys. Wow!
Now, 7 hours after the survey launched, there are 46 completed with another 27 in progress! All I can say is thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
If you're a CWSF 2011 finalist and you haven't completed the survey yet, it takes between 10 and 20 minutes, and includes questions ranging from project preparation and the CWSF experience to judging and your plans for the future. If you didn't receive the invitation email, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you still can't find it, send an email to info [at] youthscience [dot] ca (written like that to evade most spam bots). BTW, after you complete the survey, you can choose to be entered into a draw for an iPod shuffle.
The survey closes Sunday, July 10 at midnight - I look forward to the highest response rate yet!
