The first day of the 23rd European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) in Heksinki, Finland!
Today we arrived in Helsinki, Finland for the 23rd European Union Contest for Young Scientists. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a really friendly group of EUCYS volunteers who helped us carry and load our bags onto the bus. After the delegation from Luxembourg arrived, we all travelled to the exhibition hall to set up our projects. With the help of my two delegates, we were able to set up my project in a short period of time. Then we went to lunch which was just a short walk from the exhibition hall. Lunch was served in buffet- style and offered an arrangement of different salads, breads, and fish. After lunch, we took the bus to the hotel and checked into our rooms.
After everyone was settled into their rooms, one of my delegates and I took the subway back to the exhibition hall and waited for the bus sightseeing tour to start. The tour took us all around Helsinki and showed us many of the different buildings, statues, and sports arenas around the city. During the tour, we also learned a little bit of the history of Finland, and a few facts about their language. The tour finished back at the hotel two hours later. When we got back to the hotel, we met up with our other delegate and walked over to dinner. Dinner was served in a beautiful old restaurant. The restaurant was really fancy and it served a lot different kinds of food. And now it is after dinner and time to get ready for judging tomorrow!
