Based on the success of last year’s program, Youth Science Canada is pleased to announce that the Ambassador Program will be returning for the 2012 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Charlottetown, PEI. The CWSF Ambassadors will be a group of former CWSF participants who will interact with the finalists and delegates throughout the week. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate first-hand in the planning and delivery of Canada's premiere youth science event. Through this program, successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop skill sets in advanced leadership, mentorship, event management, networking, and logistics, critical to a future career in the sciences and beyond. A very limited number of positions are available and we encourage applicants with varied degrees of prior leadership experience.
During the week, ambassadors will support/interact with all finalist and delegates from the time of arrival throughout the week in leading social activities, assisting with judging support to name a few. It is anticipated that the ambassadors will be a source of inspiration to the current finalists, as exemplifying where they could be in a few years! If you are an outgoing, fun, and responsible CWSF alumnus between the ages of 18 and 27, we are looking for you!
Ambassadors will be screened based on their application. Each candidate will be asked to provide the contact information for two references who may be contacted through the application screening process. The chosen references should be from a teacher, mentor, regional science fair coordinator, professor or supervisor. Reference contacts should not submit letters of reference to the screening committee. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted with a follow-up telephone interview in April. Candidates will be contacted by e-mail to inform them of the date and time-frame to expect a call. Successful applicants will be notified by telephone by Sunday, April 15.
Selected ambassadors will participate in the full Canada-Wide Science Fair (May 12-19, 2012), with accommodations and food provided. Transportation costs are the responsibility of the candidate. To prepare for the CWSF, they must attend a 2-day training session immediately prior to the fair on May 10-11, 2012.
