YSC accredited under Imagine Canada's National Standards Program

Tue, 2013-06-18 12:00 -- Reni Barlow

Youth Science Canada is pleased to announce that it has been accredited under Imagine Canada's national Standards Program.

The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to demonstrate their compliance in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement. It helps organizations mitigate risk by ensuring that staff and volunteers understand and meet their legal, financial and fiduciary responsibilities.

"Accreditation recognizes the hard work and commitment by the Board and staff to ensure that Youth Science Canada delivers the highest possible value to its sponsors, donors, and clients." said Reni Barlow, Executive Director.

Builds public confidence

Among the Standards Program’s goals are the ability to increase an organization’s transparency and capacity, and to strengthen public confidence in individual organizations and the nonprofit sector as a whole.

Transparent, peer-review process

Our policies and procedures in the five areas of compliance were evaluated by a group of volunteers from the sector, and were found to be compliant with the Standards Program.

Barlow added, "We are extremely pleased to receive Imagine Canada's accreditation, and to join the list of accredited organizations, many of which are household names renowned for their work across the country."

Youth Science Canada programs get Canadian youth doing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) – developing and applying inquiry and critical thinking skills as they investigate scientific questions and design innovative solutions to problems arising from their own interests and the world around them. Our resources and initiatives enable teachers, parents, and other key adults to help young Canadians develop these skills, empowering them to undertake authentic scientific and engineering challenges.

Operating since 1962, Youth Science Canada is best known for the science fairs program and the annual Canada-Wide Science Fair, as well as Smarter Science, the pedagogical framework and teacher professional development program.
